Oil change procedure. I've never changed the screens, just pull them and make sure they're clean. And since I change my oil every 1500-2k I only swap the filters every 3rd change per the 6k maintenance interval. Edited March 24, 2021 by Chicken-N-Waffles
Hello. I have a 2018 690 Enduro that has almost 3000 miles on it so far. Since the beginning, I've always had to add oil every few rides. I fill it up so the oil is in the correct spot in the viewing window and then after a few rides it goes down past the bottom of the window.
Overfilled engines will burp excess oil into the air box at higher rpm and cause blue puffs of smoke , although the 690/701 does have a vapor collection canister in the left side frame rail it will probably pass a oil liquid to the air box. The hydraulic system is a closed circuit. Meaning the brake fluid is only contained within the clutch MC, SC, and line. You depress the lever, and the little metal ball gets pushed out to actuate the clutch. When the seals fail on the stock unit, the brake fluid makes its way in to the oil sump which contaminates it.
The thing I find with the 690 and oil .hard riding our usual run can be 180-200 miles .so after 3 runs 600 hard miles it's probably used half what's in there .so always thought fuck it just do a full change and filters .possibly between 600-800 miles I'd say
Keep it under 5k RPMs for the first hundred miles or so, 6k from there to the first oil change. The first service is at 600, but that's just a guideline - bring it in anytime between 500 and 600 miles. Actually do the first service through KTM - they make sure the steering head nut is in spec
